Terrific photo opportunity of majestic Pilot Mountain that transcends 9630 feet above sea level is yours as it is located right in front the resort that the early pioneers mapped out as this matterhorn guided them through the rugged terrain at the turn of the century. Pilot Mountain was named because it was a landmark or a pilot to guide explorations between Banff and Lake Louise as it could be seen from both Banff and Lake Louise on ground levels.

One may get the opportunity to view the nearby wildlife that is located along the Bow Valley Parkway. We recommend that if you see a bear that one stays in the vehicle so as to minimize any potential concerns and yet provide you with a unique photo opportunity. For more information on wildlife we sometimes recommend the Parks Canada website.

What People Are Saying About Johnston Canyon Resort

extremely courteous and friendly…

We were delighted with the cabin for comfort and its furnishings. We met the cleaning staff and they were extremely courteous and friendly. We found the place rather large so we would have liked to have had a map. There are so many areas to see and explore.
-Kari S., Edmonton, Canada

peaceful and quiet at night…

Our Cabin was adorable and perfect and we hope they never change it. The walk next to the resort was fabulous. The walk can get pretty busy during the day because it is such a lovely walk. The view we had of Pilot Mountain was spectacular. It keeps its snow all year round and resembles a Matterhorn mountain. Even though our cabin was right next to the Bow Valley Parkway it was peaceful and quiet at night.
-Larry C., Airdrie, Canada

best vacation that we have ever taken…

We were thrilled with our cabin and the close proximity to everything that we wanted to see and do in the area. We found the staff so incredibly helpful and informative. We thought that the food in the cafe was great. The best hamburger that we had during our trip. We are telling everyone that we know that if they are planning a trip to the Alberta area that they should book a cabin. It was one of the best vacations that we have ever taken. Thank you so much for everything. This exceeded our expectations.
